Sacraments
The Holy Eucharist or Holy Communion is open to all baptized Christians who receive the sacrament in their own churches. If you do not wish to receive the bread or wine, you may come forward to the altar rail and cross your arms in front of your chest to signal that you want a blessing instead.
Holy Baptism is celebrated within the context of the Sunday Eucharist. It is especially appropriate at the Easter Vigil, the Day of Pentecost, All Saints’ Sunday, and the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord or during the visitation of the Bishop. Candidates for baptism are infants and young children of parish members, and older children and adults who desire to make a mature and public commitment to the Christian faith. Instruction for parents and godparents of infants and children precede each baptism date. Older youth and adults who desire baptism meet with the Rector for classes. Please contact Mother Gail if you or a family member is seeking baptism.
Holy Matrimony is offered to couples, one of whom must be a baptized member in good standing of the parish. Exceptions may be allowed in rare circumstances with the approval of the Rector. Marriages are not performed during the seasons of Lent or Advent. Wedding dates are not entered on the church calendar until the couple has met with the Rector. It is advisable to contact the church at least 3 months before the desired date. Pre-marital counseling, usually 6 two-hour sessions, is required.
Confirmation may take place during the Bishop’s annual visit or at the Cathedral on Diocesan Confirmation dates (June and December). A series of 6 Foundations classes will be announced and held about 2 months prior to the Confirmation.
Holy Unction or Anointing for Healing is offered weekly at the Wednesday evening Eucharist. In case of accident, illnesses, or hospitalization, please notify the parish office as soon as possible. The priest will visit either in home or hospital and offer anointing and prayers for healing. The parish also has a team of Lay Eucharistic Visitors who are licensed to take the consecrated bread and wine after the Sunday services to those unable to attend. The priest will also take Holy Communion during the week to those who request it.
Reconciliation of a Penitent or Confession is available for all who desire it by contacting Mother Gail. It is especially appropriate during the Lenten season, but may be requested at any time.
Other services: Christian Burial
Members of the church are properly buried from the church. The priest will also conduct funeral home or graveside services for non-members. Please contact Mother Gail as soon as possible if a death is imminent.
