Visiting Redeemer

What to expect on Sundays at Redeemer

If you are considering joining us for worship at Redeemer, you'll find a welcoming and warm atmosphere.  As you enter the church, ushers will give you a service bulletin, which contains everything you need to know about the service.  You are invited to participate fully in the service, or just quietly observe.  Guests are encouraged to complete the blue guest registration card and drop it in the offering plate.

There are two services on Sunday morning, 8:00 and 10:30 am, and a service of Holy Communion with Holy Unction on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.  The services of Holy Eucharist or Holy Communion consist of two parts.  In the first part of the service we hear readings from Holy Scripture, usually a reading from the Hebrew Scriptures, a Psalm, a reading from one of the New Testament letters, then a reading from one of the four Gospels.  The readings are followed by a sermon or homily, in which we seek to apply the Scripture to our everyday life.  Following the sermon there is a time for prayer, in which we offer up our prayers for the Church, the world, and our own personal concerns and thanksgivings.

The second part of the service begins with the Great Thanksgiving, in which prayers are offered to God in thanks for the redemption of the world through Jesus Christ.  We also ask God to bless the gifts of bread and wine so that become for us the Body and Blood of Christ.  After the Great Thanksgiving, worshipers come forward to receive Holy Communion.  All baptized Christians are welcome at the Lord's Table.  However, if you do not wish to receive the bread or the wine, simply cross your arms over your chest and the priest will give you a blessing.  After Holy Communion, there are additional prayers and a blessing by the priest.  A coffee fellowship is held after every service (except on Wednesday evenings) to which you are welcome.

At 9:15 am (during the school year) classes for all ages meet at various locations on our campus.  You can find a list of all Sunday School classes under the Christian Education tab on this site.

Where should I park?

Parking is located on the south side of the property.  The worship services are held in the church, which is the building on the northwest corner with the steeple.

Where do my children go?

If you are attending the 8 am worship service, although children are welcome in our worship services, childcare is available for children ages birth through 2 years.  The ushers in the church narthex will direct you to the childcare room in Houser Hall.

If you attend the 10:30 am service, childcare is available for the entire service for children ages birth through 2 years in Houser Hall.  Children ages 3-10 follow the children's chapel crucifer at the beginning of the service for children's chapel and join their parents at the passing of the peace for the remainder of the service.

If you are attending Sunday School at 9:15 am, children ages birth through 2 years go to childcare.  Class for children ages 3 through 10 are held in Story Hall.  Signs on the classroom doors will indicate the right class for your child.

Youth Sunday School for grades 6-12 is held in Houser Hall.  (Rite 13, J2A, and YAC: see the Youth Sunday School page for additional information.)
